ABOUT MIAPT

MIAPT is a nonprofit professional organization established to promote the principles and practice of play therapy and to enhance the professional development of its members. MIAPT is a State Branch of the Association for Play Therapy (APT).

Our Mission

The mission of MIAPT is to educate, support, and advocate the practice of play therapy.

Our Goals

MIAPT has several broad goals as a professional organization. These goals are to:

  • Educate mental health providers, insurance suppliers, physicians, attorneys, judges and the public about play therapy and that play therapy is often the most viable treatment option for children and adolescents.
  • Engage mental health practitioners in extensive play therapy training and supervision.
  • Provide our child clients and their families with the best evidence-based and practice-based evidence for assessment and treatment interventions to promote healing and health.

As a branch of APT, we uphold the APT Diversity Statement, which reads: “APT is committed to achieving and maintaining a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). We are at our best when the principles of DEI are fully embedded in our governance, leadership, and organizational policies.  Our unwavering goal is to generate programs and processes resulting in meaningful and sustainable organizational change toward DEI.”
